OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

mandy is also reading while Bill is catching up.... no?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

idk it's what it says, I'm not sure

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

The question is when will Bill catch up to the number of books that mandy has..... but mandy is also reading (at a pace fo 2 books per month).

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

in August, BIll will have read 16 books, correct? His book reading can be written as y=4x where x is the number of months and y is the total number of books. (This is starting from x=0 prior to May) And mandy, (since the x=0 value prior to May) has already read 16 books and reads 2 books per month (therefore the slope is 2) So her reading can be modeled by a function: y=2x+16

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

You can solve the system of equations y=4x y=2x+16 (the y value of the system is the [same] number of books which they both have read, and x is the number of months [after April] that it takes for BIll to catch up to Mandy)
