Okay so when she finds out that he "died" she felt free, right? Probably because even though he was her husband, it probably wasn't the best relationship. So she wasn't cruel, because it didn't necessarily say she was happy that he "died" I'm pretty sure. She wasn't confused because it seemed as though she knew she wanted to be free from the marriage. Being ungrateful doesn't really have anything to do with this piece. So it has to be repressed- because she wants so badly to be free and her husband was in a figurative way, holding her down.
