What is the correct order of the functions from least to greatest according to the average rate of change on the interval from x = -1 to x = 3?

OpenStudy (amistre64):

find the slope of the line between the endpoints of the stated interval, for each function

OpenStudy (anonymous):

can you help

OpenStudy (amistre64):

only you know what a slope formula is ....

OpenStudy (amistre64):

only **if you know ...

OpenStudy (amistre64):

if we are given 2 points, how do we calculate the slope between them?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i dont know can you please just show me how to solve this problem

OpenStudy (amistre64):

you will have to find us something called a "slope formula", there is not much to do without it.

OpenStudy (amistre64):

as a shortcut, we only need the top of it tho, unless they want they actual slopes ... but this is jsut asking to order them

OpenStudy (anonymous):

y2-y1 over x2-x1

OpenStudy (amistre64):

good, now since they all have the same x2-x1, we can ignore that part and just work out y2-y1

OpenStudy (amistre64):

what is: h(3) - h(-1) ??

OpenStudy (anonymous):

4

OpenStudy (amistre64):

hmm, lets make sure you know how to read the notation then h(x) is a function named "h" which depends on the value of x for its output. look in the table for the function of h, and what is our output when x=3? and when x=-1?
