i think it's D b.c range is y and 9 is Y and it's a positive 9 so it should be 9 in more? someone should check me.. please

@freckles

OpenStudy (freckles):

f(time)=a function of (number of video games) anyways the input time represents the domain and f(time) aka number of video games represents the range you said the domain was non-negative values values like 0,1,2,3,4,... and so on... but if f(x) = 6x + 9 then f(0)=6(0)+9=9 and f(1)=6+9=15 and so on... so yes the outputs are 9 or more

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yaaaaaaaaay ! thank you :)

OpenStudy (freckles):

and also non-negative values can include decimal numbers but f(0)=9 and f(1/2)=6(1/2)+9=3+9=12 and f(1)=15 so anyways just trying to show it the number values are increasing starting at 9

OpenStudy (freckles):

replace f(x) with 3 and solve for x

OpenStudy (freckles):

\[f(x)=\frac{4x+1}{3} \\ f^{-1}(3)=x \text{ implies } f(x)=3 \\ \text{ so replace } f(x) \text{ with } 3 \\ 3=\frac{4x+1}{3} \\ \text{ Solve for } x \]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

is it 2

OpenStudy (freckles):

yes 3(3)=4x+1 9=4x+1 8=4x x=2 so f(2)=3 which means \[f^{-1}(3)=2\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

alright the first question was wrong. i got a 77% on this test which is better the an D or F but thank you

OpenStudy (freckles):

you are saying the question you asked before the inverse question"?

OpenStudy (freckles):

all the options had time being non-negative f(x)=6x+9 would definitely have range y greater than or equal to 9

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i guess C was it then

OpenStudy (anonymous):

but its ok... i passed

OpenStudy (freckles):

|dw:1437704714373:dw| yep for domain x greater than or equal to 0 we definitely have range is y greater than or equal to 9 that is a visual way to look at it a algebraic way is to do the following: we are given: \[x \ge 0 \\ \text{ multiply both sides by } 6 \\ 6x \ge 0 \\ \text{ add both sides by } 9 \\ 6x+9 \ge 9 \\ f(x)=6x+9 \\ \text{ so } f(x) \ge 9 \]
