HELP: the two small plastic spheres are arranged so that they can slide freely along the insulating fiber. Each has a mass of 0.1g. The spheres are given identical positive charges. a. If the lower sphere is resting against the lower knot while the upper sphere moves to a location 6 cm distant from that knot, find the charge on each. (the fiber is 45 degrees from the positive x-axis)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

my current solution is F=mg=weight=(0.0001)(9.8)=9.8x10^(-4)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

solving for the force along the fiber F=(9.8x10^(-4))/(sin(45))=1.3859x10^(-3)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

but when i plug it in the coulomb's formula it results to a horrible value. The answer should be 16.67 nC.

OpenStudy (irishboy123):

Why are you dividing by sin45 ?

OpenStudy (irishboy123):

you should always draw these things, as they make the mistakes seem obvious
