hey @Loser66

OpenStudy (loser66):

replace x =-3 into the expression, what do you get?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@Loser66 i still dont understand.

OpenStudy (loser66):

No need to understand, just calculate it for me, please.

OpenStudy (loser66):

you will get the logic after doing that.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so -3 times 3 is -9 -3^2 is 9 times 7 is 63

OpenStudy (anonymous):

wait no -7 so -63

OpenStudy (loser66):

hey, x3 means \(x^3\)

OpenStudy (loser66):

it is not x*3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so confused. could you do the first few steps to get me started?

OpenStudy (yamyam70):

is this long or synthetic division ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

long i believe

OpenStudy (loser66):

no need to take long division!! \((-3)^3-7(-3)^2-18(-3)+42=-24\) hence 24 is the remainder of the expression divided by (x+3) If you don't trust me, take long division, the answer will be the same.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thank you so much!

OpenStudy (yamyam70):

WAIT UP

OpenStudy (yamyam70):

@Loser66 should you use synthetic division the answer would be 6 its divide not substitute

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@Loser66 yamyam says 6 you say 24?
