can someone tell me if im right

OpenStudy (anonymous):

In the figure, ΔABC ~ ΔDEF. Solve for x. Triangles ABC and DEF. Angles B and E are congruent and measure 160 degrees. AB measures x. BC measures 16. DE measures 3. EF measures 8. x = 1.5 x = 6 x = 4 x = 5.5

OpenStudy (anonymous):

1.5 is what i got

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OpenStudy (danjs):

k..

OpenStudy (danjs):

~ means similar right..

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ya

OpenStudy (danjs):

ok i think you mixed it up a bit...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

how

OpenStudy (danjs):

since the triangles are similar, the ratios of similar sides are the same...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so that means it would have to be 5.5

OpenStudy (danjs):

\[\frac{ DE }{ AB } = \frac{ EF }{ BC }\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so i was right because it would equal and 5.5 shows that

OpenStudy (danjs):

\[\frac{ 3 }{ x } = \frac{ 8 }{ 16 }\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

im lost

OpenStudy (danjs):

the ratios of DE/AB has to be the same as EF/BC , since they are similar triangles

OpenStudy (danjs):

just have to fill in the numbers

OpenStudy (anonymous):

well now i got 6 i multiplied then divided by 100

OpenStudy (danjs):

yep, x=6

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yesss

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thats cross multiplying

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thank you

OpenStudy (danjs):

welcome
