An angle has a measure of (5x+7)°, and another angle has a measure of (2x+54)°. Together, they form a linear pair. Find the measure of the smaller angle. (no image).

linear pair means the sum of the angles = 180

I added the two equations together and puts " = 180" and I solved for x. I got 17, and I plugged 17 into (2x + 54). I then got 88 degrees. two of my options for multiple choice are 17 degrees and 88 degrees, but I do not know which one to put for my answer..
