I think it's memorizing key points, however, applying it to what you already know could help as well. It also may depend on the individual.

What is the difference between paraphrasing and summarizing?

Summarizing doesn't include cutting the original material down.
They are one and the same.
Summaries are shorter.
Paraphrasing involves putting original material into your own words.
Paraphrases are longer.
