PLEASE ANYONE HELP I WILL GIVE MEDAL AND EXPLAIN TOO ! Select the equation of the line that passes through the point (5, 7) and is perpendicular to the line x = 4. y = 4 x = 5 y = 7 x = 7

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I think the answer is x=5

OpenStudy (mertsj):

x=4 is a vertical line. What sort of line is perpendicular to a vertical line?

OpenStudy (andrearchat):

@carolinar7

OpenStudy (anonymous):

could you define perpendicular better please /: I'm sorry @Mertsj

OpenStudy (mertsj):

Line l1 is perpendicular to line l2 because the intersection is a right angle.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The answer is going to be one of the y = values. Perpendicular is where two lines crosses and creates a 90 degree angle

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so it would be y=4 @Mertsj

OpenStudy (mertsj):

Very good!!

OpenStudy (mertsj):

It is y= but not y = 4.

OpenStudy (mertsj):

It has to go through the point (5,7).

OpenStudy (anonymous):

but why why y=7 ? then

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ohhhhh

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i totally forgot about (5,7)

OpenStudy (mertsj):

Because the horizontal line that goes through the required point is y = 7

OpenStudy (mertsj):

You have it now, don't you?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes I do thank you very much for your help @Mertsj really appreciate it

OpenStudy (mertsj):

yw

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thank you too @Nixy
