Functions HELP!!!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Given the following functions f(x) and g(x), solve (f + g)(3) and select the correct answer below: f(x) = 2x + 21 g(x) = x − 24 A.) −27 B.) −21 C.) 6 D.) 48

@dan815 @Data_LG2 @phi @Mchilds15 @LynFran

OpenStudy (phi):

(f + g)(3) is short for f(3) + g(3) can you find f(3) ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

f(x) = 27

OpenStudy (phi):

you mean f(3)= 27 (f(x) would be the formula 2x+21)

OpenStudy (phi):

now find g(3)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes and g(3) = -21

OpenStudy (phi):

now add

OpenStudy (anonymous):

C.) 6

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I need help with some more, if you don't mind.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Given the functions f(x) = 10x + 25 and g(x) = x + 8, which of the following functions represents f[g(x)] correctly? f[g(x)] = 10x + 33 f[g(x)] = 10x2 + 33 f[g(x)] = 10x + 105 f[g(x)] = 10x2 + 105

OpenStudy (phi):

yes the other way to do this is first add f(x)+g(x) like this: 2x + 21 + x-24 and we get (f+g)(x)= 3x - 3 now figure out (f+g)(3) = 3*3-3 = 9 - 3 = 6

OpenStudy (phi):

starting with f(x) = 10x + 25 we can say f(a) = 10a+25 f(b*b)= 10*b*b+25 f(xyz)= 10*xyz+25 following that pattern, what is f( g(x) ) ?
