Andria is conducting an experiment to determine whether a new medication is effective in reducing swelling. She gets 1,000 volunteers with swelling and divides them into 2 groups. The control group does not receive any medication; the treatment group receives the medication. The patients in the treatment group show reduced signs of swelling. What can Andria conclude from this experiment?

Your thoughts?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I dont get it

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

If only the treatment group gets better, then does the treatment seem to be working?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Wait, I don't get after she devided into 2 groups

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ohh, she devides into 2 groups, 1 group gives medication and on the other dont, ok

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so the answer would be that the medication is effective, thats it?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

**effective in reducing swelling

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

yeah the other group just gets a fake treatment (a placebo)

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):
