Find lim f(x) and lim f(x) x-2- x-2+

OpenStudy (irishboy123):

isn't the graph telling you that it does exist hollow dot vs filled dot

OpenStudy (chris215):

so the limit doesn't exist?

OpenStudy (chris215):

@IrishBoy123 ?

OpenStudy (chris215):

@ganeshie8 ?

OpenStudy (irishboy123):

there's a solid dot at x = 2 so the function has a value at x = 2; BUT the limits are 5 and -2, the hollow dots

OpenStudy (irishboy123):

so it could be defined like this: |dw:1438441989235:dw|

OpenStudy (chris215):

I see how you got that but is that all I need to answer this question?

OpenStudy (irishboy123):

i should think so. key is: with limits, we never get there, we just get closer and closer and closer... with your limits, we never get to x = 2 and if we come at x=2 from x = 1.99999 we get a different answer than if we come at it from x = 2.0000001
