OpenStudy (anonymous):

Write the equation of a hyperbola with vertices (-3, 0) and (3, 0) and co-vertices (0, -5) and (0, 5).

OpenStudy (welshfella):

the vertices have the same y coordinates but different x coordinates that makes the hyberbole horizontal general form is (x - h)^2 - (y - k^^2 ------ ------- a^2 b^2

OpenStudy (welshfella):

next to find the centre which is half way between the vertices this is at (0.0) so the value of h and k is 0

OpenStudy (welshfella):

a will be the distance of vertex for centre so it is 3 b will be the distance from centre to the co'vertex which is 0.5 so plug these values into the general formula and you have your answer
