How does the position of the scrotum in a male's body protect sperm?

OpenStudy (rushwr):

Spermatogenesis, the making of sperms, requires temperatures lower than body temperature. The scrotum, the loose bag of skin that hangs below the penis, being outside the abdominal cavity is exposed to atmospheric temperature, hence has lesser temperature, which is conducive to spermatogenesis.

OpenStudy (rushwr):

Since it has a low temperature it protects the sperms. Because if it was inside the body it would have been destroyed.
