its a 2 step process that uses pythagoras' theorem... in the larger triangle you have a hypotenuse of 17 and base of 8 and you need to find the shorter side can you do that..?

leave the answer for the shorter side or height as a radical then the smaller triangle, you need to find the hypotenuse x you just found the height, and the base is 5
