The number of toys owned by eight classmates is shown below: 4, 3, 4, 5, 6, 6, 8, 4 Part A: What is the mean of the data? Show your work. (4 points) Part B: Use your answer from Part A to calculate the mean absolute deviation for the data. Show your work. (6 points)

OpenStudy (welshfella):

Par A the mean is the sum of the 8 numbers divided by 8.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so five

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i need help on part b

OpenStudy (welshfella):

yes

OpenStudy (welshfella):

Give me a second on that one. My memory is a bit hazy on that so i need to check something.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok

OpenStudy (welshfella):

you take each value and find the difference between it and the mean. for example the first value 4 the difference is mean-4 = 5-4 = 1

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i dont get that

OpenStudy (welshfella):

Do that with each value (in a table if you like) and add these computed differences up Divide the result by 8 and you have the mean absolute deviation.
