Energy in an ecosystem flows directly from _______.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the sun

OpenStudy (anonymous):

because it gives energy to the plants (they photosynthesize)

Yes from the sun :) Light energy from the sun is converted into chemical energy (by synthesising chemical compounds) in plants during the process of photosynthesis. Plants are producers. So 10% of the energy in plants is transferred to animals that consume them, i.e. herbivores. The latter are consumed by other organisms and acquire energy by eating them. This is how energy flows through an ecosystem :) Hope this helps.
