How could you change the thermos into an open energy system?

OpenStudy (arindameducationusc):

open the lid! An open system is a system for which matter is able to cross its boundary. That won't make it an effective thermos though, because a thermos's goal is to prevent energy transfer across its boundary, and the matter which can transfer will possibly carry energy with it as heat.
