In your own words, describe the process of natural selection.
yay, this is my favorite
okay so natural selection
example: let's say there were giraffes with short necks, but ever so often a few giraffes would be born with a bit more longer necks. The giraffes with short necks tried to get leaves from trees were to short, and died off. The giraffes with long necks would eat the leaves on the tree because their necks were tall enough to reach the trees, and they survived. This is natural selection
ok but can you explain what natural selection is? not an example of it.
and explain what it is in your own words please :)
"the process whereby organisms better adapted to their environment tend to survive and produce more offspring. The theory of its action was first fully expounded by Charles Darwin and is now believed to be the main process that brings about evolution. quoted from oxford dictionaries
now you put that definition into your own words
another example is shown here http://evolution.berkeley.edu/evolibrary/images/interviews/naturalselection3.gif the bird can spot the green beetles easier since they don't blend in with the brown dirt easily. So the brown beetles survive. In a sense, nature has selected them to live and carry down the genes.
can you put that in your own words please ? :) thx
@jim_thompson5910 Good example :) I think it helps more than my example. I forgot to mention that these changes don't happen fast. They happen over generations.
@geny55 Use the examples and definitions to put the definition of natural selection into your own words
natural selection is the name given to the mechanism of successful gene replication. in the vast majority of cases, the replicator has no idea that it is replicating or that replication has purpose.
