what else?
OpenStudy (anonymous):
Oh wait nevermind D cant be 15 cuz at the end it says 40 ppl like hatchbacks
OpenStudy (anonymous):
Oh wait! B is 40 then right?
jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):
you already said D = 10
jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):
B isn't 40

Oh so where does the 40 go if A is 15?
jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):
`There are 40 people who liked hatchbacks`
this goes in the "liked hatchbacks" row and "total" column. Basically saying "the total of people who liked hatchbacks is 40"
jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):
ie, C = 40
OpenStudy (anonymous):
Oh so B is 25?
jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):
yes

Because 40-15= 25
OpenStudy (anonymous):
ok
OpenStudy (anonymous):
G=25... H=60....F=45
OpenStudy (anonymous):
right?
jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):
G = 25 ... correct
H = 60 ... not correct
F = 45 ... not correct

you may have mixed up H and F somehow?
jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):
but the values don't swap (not entirely)
OpenStudy (anonymous):
No cuz 25+35= 60
OpenStudy (anonymous):
@jim_thompson5910
OpenStudy (anonymous):
I am confused now...

I thought E was 35 and B was 25....35 + 25= 60?
jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):
hint:
G+H = 100
jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):
another hint:
C+F = 100
OpenStudy (anonymous):
Oh ok
OpenStudy (anonymous):
Ok so can we just review that....
A=15
B= 25
When we add those two we get C=40
D=10
E=???
What did we say E was? is it 50? when we add 50+10 we get F=100
G=25
H=i guess 75, if e is 50
25+75 is I=100

F is not 100
OpenStudy (anonymous):
Oh i meant 60 sorry
jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):
G+H = 100
25+H = 100
solve for H to get H = 75
jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):
F = 60, correct
OpenStudy (anonymous):
cuz 50+10 is 60...

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):
or you can solve for F in
C+F = 100
40+F = 100
either way, F = 60
OpenStudy (anonymous):
So would this be the chart?
jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):
perfect
OpenStudy (anonymous):
Uh lol ok thank you now part B
OpenStudy (anonymous):
So the number would be 50, right? And then we divide that by 100. so 0.50 or 50% is that right?

you have to consider the totals for those who don't like hatchbacks or sedans
jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):
number who don't like sedans OR hatchbacks = (number who don't like sedans) + (number who don't like hatchbacks) - (number who don't like both)
OpenStudy (anonymous):
Oh so 75 or 75%
jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):
close but no
OpenStudy (anonymous):
I thought it was the total?

25% ?
jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):
number who don't like sedans = 75
number who don't like hatchbacks = 60
number who don't like both = 50
number who don't like sedans OR hatchbacks = (number who don't like sedans) + (number who don't like hatchbacks) - (number who don't like both)
OpenStudy (anonymous):
Ohhh! okk so...
OpenStudy (anonymous):
85%
jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):
yes

ok wow I finally understand this now?
jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):
the subtle difference is that 50% would be if it said "what percentage didn't like BOTH types"
or "what percentage didn't like sedans AND hatcbacks". They didn't just hate 1 car. They hate both cars.
OpenStudy (anonymous):
Ok i get it now.
jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):
in part C, you simply compare the values of H and F
OpenStudy (anonymous):
so then it would be yes

yes since H > F

I cant thank you any more! I have one more question.. i am going to open it up in a few minutes
