a 13 year old growing 2 inches in 1 year is it mitosis or meiosis

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I believe it's mitosis.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes mitosis is correct: Mitosis is the process of cell division when somatic cells divide and end up with the same number of chromosomes...this is just regular growth division Meiosis is the process of cell division where cells divide and end up with half as many chromosomes than they started with...this occurs during sexual cell division such as during the production of eggs and sperm Thus unless this 13 year old is growing mostly out of egg and sperm cells I would say their growth is driven my normal somatic cell division or Mitosis!!! -Dr. Diamond
