A picture is enlarged by keeping its width the same and increasing its length. The scatter plot below shows the perimeter of the picture (y) for different lengths (x): plot the ordered pairs 20, 60 and 30, 80 and 40, 100 and 50, 120 and 60, 140 Which function best represents the data in the scatter plot? y = 2x − 20 y = 2x + 20 y = x − 20 y = x + 20

OpenStudy (ccswims):

well first, find the slope, y2 - y1/x2 - x1

OpenStudy (ccswims):

so ill give you this 120 - 60/50 - 20

OpenStudy (ccswims):

subtract that by yourself and tell me what you get

OpenStudy (anonymous):

60/30 thats what I got

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@ccswims

OpenStudy (ccswims):

ok, simplified it is 2/1. so, we now have the slope of our equation y = 2x + b. but we still need to find b (or where the y intersects.)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ok

OpenStudy (ccswims):

now, using our slope, we must change it to 1/2 because we are going backwords. So, do 60 divided by 0.5

OpenStudy (ccswims):

I mean MULTIPLY 60 by .5

OpenStudy (ccswims):

sorry, if you divided that would be wrong, multiply them

OpenStudy (anonymous):

lol ok

OpenStudy (anonymous):

its 30

OpenStudy (ccswims):

ok, so it is y = 2x + 30

OpenStudy (anonymous):

but my answers are y = 2x − 20 y = 2x + 20 y = x − 20 y = x + 20

OpenStudy (ccswims):

ok, go with y = 2x + 20. it cant be -20 because it is a positive y intersect, not a negative, and we know it is a slope of 2.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok
