the outlier is a number that stands out/or is a lot bigger or smaller then the rest ex: 21 25 24 42 95 -57 the outliers are 95 and -57 because one is a lot bigger then the rest and the other is a lot smaller then the rest

the mean can be affected b/c its giving an average of a range that probably isn't close to the actual data. median is not influenced, b/c of this, the median is often used when there are outliers to prevent distorted mean. mode is also not affected.
