Counting Problem
\(\large \color{black}{\begin{align} & \normalsize \text{Find the number of words with or without meaning which can be made } \hspace{.33em}\\~\\ & \normalsize \text{using all the letters of the word AGAIN. If these words are written as } \hspace{.33em}\\~\\ & \normalsize \text{as in a dictionary, what will be the 50th word?} \hspace{.33em}\\~\\ \end{align}}\)
hmmm we know there will by 5!/2! words aka 60 words so now we got to figure out I guess how many words start with a, how many with g, how many with i, and then last how many with n
yes
dictionary operates in alphabetical order
I think it would be easy to count from the last page (60th word)
or in reverse alphabetical order..
i still dont understand how to find 50th word
First notice that finding 50th word in alphabetical order is same as finding 11th word in reverse alphabetical order
yes i get that
whats the first word in reverse alphabetical order ?
\(\large \color{black}{\begin{align} sleek-feathered oneA\hspace{.33em}\\~\\ \end{align}}\)
lol \(\large \color{black}{\begin{align} \text{sleek-feathered oneA}\hspace{.33em}\\~\\ \end{align}}\)
openstudy doesn't like sleek-feathered oneA try putting spaces between letters..
openstudy is misunderstanding my word hmm
\(\large \color{black}{\begin{align} \text{N_I_G_A_A}\hspace{.33em}\\~\\ \end{align}}\)
Right, Fix first letter. Forget about first letter. How many words can you make with the remaining four letters ?
4!/2!=12
Yes, whats the 12th word ?
\(\large \color{black}{\begin{align} \text{N_A_A_G_I}\hspace{.33em}\\~\\ \end{align}}\)
Yes, whats the 11th word ?
\(\large \color{black}{\begin{align} \text{N_A_A_I_G}\hspace{.33em}\\~\\ \end{align}}\)
is it correct
Yep! thats the 11th word in reverse alphabetical order
As discussed earlier, that will be the 50th word in alphabetical order
