Geometric Sequences

OpenStudy (xaze):

Brian has been playing a game where he can create towns and help his empire expand. Each town he has allows him to create 1.17 times as many villagers. The game gave Brian 8 villagers to start with. Help Brian expand his empire by solving for how many villagers he can create with 16 towns. Then explain to Brian how to create an equation to predict the number of villagers for any number of towns. Show your work and use complete sentences.

OpenStudy (xaze):

That's it? :o

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The required equation is x = 1.17y here x = no. of villagers and y = no. of towns 1.17 is a constant that can be said to be C

OpenStudy (anonymous):

That's the equation

OpenStudy (tkhunny):

This problem cannot be solved. Stay with me... 1) It should be obvious that 0 villagers can be created with 0 towns 2) How many villagers can be created with only 1 town? This information is not given. It is NOT 0*1.17 = 0

OpenStudy (xaze):

@tkhunny, @bingtamekia, so if it is not 0*1.17=0, what can it be...? I'll have to put something, haha.

OpenStudy (tkhunny):

Yup. Have to start somewhere other than zero, if you intend to multiply for each successive value. The ill-defined geometric sequence (0,0,0,0,0,0,...) is not very interesting.

OpenStudy (jack1):

lol... still props :)
