OpenStudy (campbell_st):

so you need to identify the common ratio... so look at the terms n = 1 \[a_{1} = -3(4)^{1 -1} = -3\] n = 2 \[a_{2} = -3(4)^{2 -1} = -12\] so what are you multiplying by?

OpenStudy (campbell_st):

you can, and add them all up out you can use the formula for the sum of a geometric series

OpenStudy (itsmichelle29):

@campbell_st

OpenStudy (campbell_st):

well if you found every term, they would all be negatives... so adding 5 negatives will give a negative

OpenStudy (itsmichelle29):

okay thanks
