At that time the Armed forces were largely segregated; African Americans fought in separate units, but in 1948, president truman decided to put an end to segregation in the armed forces through administrative action.

thee were famous AA units like the Tuskegee Airmen that were distinguished during WWII, and their performance may have caused generals to consider ending segregation of units. but in all the wars in american history up to the end of WWII units were segregated.
