The four points (−2, 5), (−2, −1), (6, −1), and (3, 5) are the vertices of a polygon. What is the area, in square units, of this polygon?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i got 48

OpenStudy (anonymous):

No, it is 39 if you place the points you will realize that is a trapezium with base1=8 and base2=5 and heigth=6, using the formula of area of trapezium \[\Large A=\frac{ height \times(Base _{1}+Base _{2}) }{ 2 }\] replacing you get \[\Large A=\frac{ 6(8+5) }{ 2 }=\frac{ 6(13) }{ 2 }=3\times13=39\]
