Medal!!!!!! :) From the perspective of a congressional representative in 1961, write a statement to your constituents. Your statement should either support or oppose President Kennedy’s decision to send a man to the moon. Please include the following information in your journal entry: State your decision to either support or oppose the President’s request for more money for NASA. Defend your decision by giving your constituents reasons for your support or opposition to space exploration. You may use evidence from the previous lesson or from your own research.
Do you support or are you against his decision?
Im not sure to tell you the truth
Well, the United States was behind the Soviet Union in terms of the space race. They wanted to catch up. This all started in October 1957 when the soviets launched Sputnik into orbit, a satellite the orbited the earth even around the U.S. People were terrified that a soviet craft was orbiting around the United States and they feared that the soviets would have superiority in space I.e like maybe they fire missiles from space into U.S. Cities maybe this is an exaggeration. Kennedy was pressured to put a man on the moon, and he felt that if they could do this before the soviets the U.S. Could possibly have an advantage in space.
There was a general fear of allowing the opposite side to gain a technological advantage, and who knows what this could lead to possibly losing the Cold War. I can't tell you whether to support it or not you must do that yourself but I gave you a basic rundown of what happened.
