Medal!!!!!!!! Just like in the 1920s, people today are challenging the teaching of evolution. Research what is happening in your state in regard to that controversy. One very good source of information on this topic is the American Geosciences Institute. Go to www.agiweb.org and click the “Public Policy” icon on the left side of the page. Then click the “Current Issues” icon. On the Current Issues page, click the “Evolution in the Classroom” link in the Education and Research Issues section. This resource has an interactive map you can click to find out about current policy where you live.
Or, you can find information by typing “teaching evolution in (your state)” into a search engine. Write up the results of your research. Be sure to record your sources of information so you can provide them for your teacher. Cover these ideas in your written response: What are the most recent developments in the teaching of evolution in your state? How does this connect to the Tennessee Scopes Monkey Trial of the 1920s? What are your sources of information?
