6|6-4x|=8x+4

OpenStudy (anonymous):

x= 1 or x= 5/2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

How did you get that answer.

OpenStudy (jack1):

6|6-4x|=8x+4 divide both sides by 6 |6-4x|=8/6x+4/6 now square both sides 16x^2 - 48x + 36 = (16x^2)/9 + (16x)/9 + 4/9 now make one side = 0 then solve

OpenStudy (jack1):

\(\Large 6|6-4x|=8x+4\) \(\Large |6-4x|=\frac86x+\frac46\) \(\Large \sqrt{(6-4x)^2}=\frac86x+\frac46\) \(\Large (~~\sqrt{(6-4x)^2}~~)^2=(~~\frac86x+\frac46~~)^2\) \(\Large (6-4x)^2=\frac{16}9x^2 + \frac{16}9x + \frac49\) \(\Large 16x^2 - 48x + 36=\frac{16}9x^2 + \frac{16}9x + \frac49\) \(\Large \frac{144}9x^2 - \frac{432}9x + \frac{324}9=\frac{16}9x^2 + \frac{16}9x + \frac49\) \(\Large \frac{128}9x^2 - \frac{448}9x + \frac{320}9=0\) \(\Large 128x^2 - 448x + 320=0\) \(\Large 2x^2 - 7x + 5=0\) solve for x
