Every time you try to print something your computer will automatically show the preview to make sure you didn't make the wrong call out of the blue. For example when clicking print Google docs will give you a preview where you can make your preferences to be passed to the printer itself such as one sided, two sided, and the spacing.

However depending on the program used you can make them do a short-cut without preview but this is not a common practice.
