I need help with this question, I've been doing it on paper and I still cant get it right. Drey makes $10 an hour plus $15 an hour for every hour of overtime. Overtime hours are any hours more than 40 hours for the week. Part A: Create an equation that shows the amount of wages earned, W, for working x hours in a week when there is no overtime. Part B: Create an equation that shows the amount of wages earned, S, for working y hours of overtime. Hint: Remember to include in the equation the amount earned from working 40 hours. Part C: Drey earned $490 in 1 week. How many hours (regular plus overtime) did he work?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

W = $10(x) where x = number of hours worked

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Part B: he has to work 40 hours to get any overtime so: S = $10(40) + $15(y)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Part C: based on the last equation: $490 = $10(40) + $15(y) $490 = $400 + $15y subtract $400 from both sides to get: $90 = $15y divide both sides by $15 to get y = 4 he worked the normal 40 hours (he couldn't have got paid $400 dollars otherwise) and then he did 4 hrs overtime @ $15 to get $90

or as sherlock holmes would say "Elementary, my dear watson!"
