The diameter of a bacteria colony that doubles every hour is represented by the graph below. What is the diameter of the bacteria after 8 hours?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

127 bacteria 255 bacteria 511 bacteria 1,023 bacteria

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Time: 0 -> 1 Bacteria Time: 1 -> 2 Bacteria Time: 2 -> 4 Bacteria so, in time x we have 2^x bacteria now, in time 8 (after 8 hours) we have 2^8 Bacteria, means 256! and in start we have 1, so after 8 hours we have 255 bacteria plus that one! the answer is 255

@Hero Right here:)

hero (hero):

@Mackenzie_Willa, you can answer the question by coming up with the equation for the given graph. Have you thought about what the equation for the graph might be?

hero (hero):

thanks @triciaal. I was trying to get the user to figure it out for himself.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

No, it's fine:)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So, then would we plug in numbers?

OpenStudy (triciaal):

@hero sorry I did not look at other responses after I was messaged then tagged and started responding. will let you continue I will ask people not to message me when they have

hero (hero):

It's not about you posting a response, it's about your approach. We discussed this already.

OpenStudy (triciaal):

@hero will make sure I check first before responding if I am on again

hero (hero):

I think you're still missing my point, but okay.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Anyways, let 's get back to the question, okay?

OpenStudy (anonymous):
