what is the difference between a Hacker and Craker

OpenStudy (comm.dan):

A hacker is a person who tries to bring down servers and computers, while the job of a cracker is to exploit bugs and issues so that they can be fixed

OpenStudy (osanseviero):

It really depends. Hacker has been used in a different way the last years. http://paulgraham.com/gba.html to learn more :)

OpenStudy (dgreenhouse88):

A hacker traditionally is a clever programmer who enjoys creating novel solutions to problems. Whereas a cracker is devious sort who enjoys breaking into systems. See: http://searchsecurity.techtarget.com/definition/hacker

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I have not heard the term cracker in awhile. I think the term has been absorbed into "black hat" hacker.
