Find a basic dress/shirt pattern online. For this exercise, choose a simple design that you could add elements to. You will now create a price list for a cheap, moderate, and expensive version of this pattern. For each version: Find material and notions online and make a price list of what you would need. After each item price add the url and a picture. Write a summary of how you chose the items for the outfit. Hints: Cheap version: Look at the sales pages to keep the costs down! Moderate version: Use nicer fabric, add nicer buttons, or change the pattern to be longer. Expensive version: The sky’s the limit! Be creative; make it as ooh la la as possible! When you have priced out three different versions, write a paragraph that explains which you would choose to mass-produce the dress/shirt for a wide market. Explain why you feel that the dress would sell, where you would sell it and suggest a price. (Remember to add labor costs and profit into your price!) Calculating suggested retail price: Labor = 30% of cost of materials Profit = 20% Example: Materials= $50 Labor = $15 (50x.30) Costs= $65 Profit= $13 (65x.20) Retail price= $78
