Question: Should teens be allowed to play dangerous sports? Claim: Teenagers should be allowed to play dangerous sports. Reason 1: Young children learn their own limits and strengths through play with others, but they also learn valuable social lessons about what acceptable behavior and the rights of others. Sport therefore is not just a physical phenomenon, but a mental and social one. Evidence:There is very little evidence to show that people who take part in dangerous sports become violent as a result. In fact it is more likely that apart from the many friendships created in playing, sport acts as a safety valve for a society by reducing stress. Source: "Writefix.com." Writefixcom. N.p., n.d. Web. 16 Aug. 2015. Reason 2: Our collective obsession with protecting our children from harm threatens to turn out a generation of children ill-equipped spiritually or emotionally to deal with the brave new world order in which only the tough and the persistent will thrive. Evidence: Children in modern America are growing up in a country paralyzed by complacency and fear. Our political leaders are hardly great, and our economic power is sputtering. Life is not going to be easy, or safe, even for the competent. We would do well to remember that spiritual development is every bit as important as physical safety. i need help with a counterclain, rebuttal, evidence and a source.
Will your evidence have actual data backing it up?
You can find information on sports related injuries fairly easily I'm sure, as that seems like it would be one of the main counterarguments
http://www.cdc.gov/mmwr/preview/mmwrhtml/mm5538a1.htm The CDC (Don't worry it's a government page) has info here relating to football injuries in high school students
The information is a little old, but it's still good data
That's what I took it as. If you wanted another claim you could take a look at the financial effect of high school sports on their schools. I don't know what that data will reflect, but it seems like it might be a factor
what is a rebuttal then?
If a counterclaim is something that people say to disagree with you, then the rebuttal would be your response. Kind of your counterclaim to their counterclaim. If I said "Carrots are good for you because reasons", Your counterclaim would be "But if you eat too many your pee will be orange", to which my rebuttal would be "Who cares?"
ohh thank you that makes more sense
