If x is a negative number, which of the following could equal the absolute value of x? Select all that apply. -2 2 4 6

OpenStudy (anonymous):

2,4,6

imqwerty (imqwerty):

when u take absolute value of any number say x u always get a positive result so if x is negative(say -x) |-x|=x or if x is positive say(+x) |x|=x so we see that the absolute value function always gives a positive result :) so wehn we take the absolute value of any negative number we can't get a negative result :) can u find out the answer now?? @surryyy

OpenStudy (anonymous):

|x|=x if x>0 |x|=-x if x<0 Since your x is given negative(that is less than 0) we have |x|=-x But since x is negative, -x will be positive therefore the absolute value of x would be a positive value You can clearly see which numbers from the given options are positive
