I play the piano and my teacher always tells me to release my hand in somehow i don't understand can someone tell me how ??

OpenStudy (freshkeith56):

What do you play when she tells you to release?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Any song like bach's invention , etude any any thing

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i would not understand either, i do not blame you.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So you play the piano ?

OpenStudy (freshkeith56):

lol, probably a certain key. But if she says release......jus ask her....she don't listen. That's her tbh!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

No she tells me to release while I'm playing with all keys I did ask her and I don't understand !!

OpenStudy (freshkeith56):

Does he piano have the part where you can hold a note without touching the piano.....except the bottom?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Perhaps you are tensing your hand when play the piano.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

You think ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Well, my piano instructor always points out about my tendency to tense my hand (especially in fast passages).

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Or maybe if tensing your hand is not the problem, then probably you're holding out a note for a beat or two longer than it needs to be.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

No no I guess the problem is with my hands tension. But how can I solve it ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

If you have a tennis ball (or any other ball of that size), wrap your hand around it, but don't grip it to hard or you would tensing your hand again. This should help you to mimic the proper hand position on the piano without tensing your hand.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Aha thanks much appreciated I'll try it

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@Tarek.David Your welcome. I hope the advice helps because that's how I relieved my hand's tension.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

And one more thing that I didn't mention, once your hand is draped over the ball in the correct position, slide the ball out from underneath the hand while maintaining the correct position. Remember, don't tense up your hand while doing so!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

She also might be telling you to release the pedal! I get that a lot from my instructor. I will be focusing so hard on the piece I forget about the pedal.
