now expand the numerator(s):
[(2x² + 4x + 3x + 6) - (x² - 4x + 2x - 8)] / (x + 2)(x - 4)
(2x² + 4x + 3x + 6 - x² + 4x - 2x + 8) / (x + 2)(x - 4)
organize:
(2x² - x² + 4x + 3x + 4x - 2x + 6 + 8) / (x + 2)(x - 4)
(x² + 9x + 14) / (x + 2)(x - 4)
(x + 7)(x + 2) / (x + 2)(x - 4)
cancel out (x + 2)
