HELP PLS :'(

OpenStudy (anonymous):

A train covered a certain distance at a uniform speed.if the train would have been 10km/h faster , it would have taken 2 hours less than the schedules time.and if the train were slower by 10km/h ; it would have taken 3 hours more than scheduled time.find the distance covered by the train

@Preetha and @pooja195 PLS HELP

OpenStudy (abhisar):

Hi! Don't cry, let's try to solve this together c:

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yep :)

OpenStudy (abhisar):

Train is travelling with uniform speed, so first thing you need to know is that when anything is travelling through constant speed then distance traversed is given by speed*time.

OpenStudy (abhisar):

So, we can say that time taken is given by distance/speed. Got it?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok

OpenStudy (anonymous):

then??

OpenStudy (abhisar):

Let the speed of train be s and distance be d. Then time taken will be d/s ........ 1 Now, if train would have been 10 km/hr faster then its speed would be (s+10) and time taken would be (T-2). So we can write that d/(x+10) = T-2 .......2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh ya

OpenStudy (anonymous):

then

OpenStudy (abhisar):

Again, if the train would have been 10km/h slower then its speed would have been (s-10) and time taken would have been (T+3) So, we can write that d/(s-10)=T+3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

hmm

OpenStudy (abhisar):

Now, you have 3 variables d, s and T and 3 equations. Can you solve the equations to find the value of variables?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i dont knw to solve three i only knw to solve 2

OpenStudy (abhisar):

Ok, I'll help you. From equation 1 we know d=st. Now put this value of d in other two equations and solve the 2 equations. Can you do that?

OpenStudy (abhisar):

\(\bf Hint\) Value of S will be 50 km/h

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok let me try

OpenStudy (anonymous):

am not getting it

OpenStudy (abhisar):

We will get following two equations, st = (T-2)(s+10) st = (T+3)(s-10) Simplifying both of them and then adding. |dw:1439948695514:dw|

Thank uh :)
