3. Discuss the role of opium as a commodity in Chinese society during the 1700’s and identify who were involved in the opium wars and what impact it had on the relationship between Western Europe and China.

opium in the 1700's was a major economic factor seeing as those who bought it sold it to those becoming addicted thus creating constant need. the war was fought over who had the right to the major draw in of the trade, the british ( who transported and sold it ) or the chinese (who grew and sold it). Briton won the war creating a humiliated china because of the shear number of chinese the british had killed with there few soldiers.
