OpenStudy (czarluc):

If thee are 43 students. 23 students liked english class. 18 liked math. 9 students liked neither subjects. what is the number of students that liked both?

OpenStudy (texaschic101):

I made a venn diagram and if I did it correctly, I am going to say 7 liked both

OpenStudy (mathmate):

@texaschic101 Please do not hesitate to show your work (Venn diagram) to better help @czarluc. Another way to approach it would be 43 students less 9 who like nothing =34 who like either or both. using \(|E\cup M|=|E|+|M|-|E\cap M|\) which makes 34=23+18-\(|E\cap M|\) Solve for \(|E\cap M|\).

OpenStudy (arindameducationusc):

I agree with both @mathmate and@texachic101 7 should be the answer
