This is how u do it . If u are asked to find the distance between X and Y . U will say it is x-y right? SO here its gonna be -40-18 = =58
I still don't get it
See if u are travelling from 18th pint to =40 th point okai. ? And imagine these are meter values ! So 18th to zero point u have gone 18 m right? and zero to 40th point u have gone another 40m so adding that it would be 58 since it is to the opposite direction it would be negative.

absolute values are always gonna be positive, so the only one that theoretically makes sense would be the 3rd one.
