A rational number is one that can be expressed as a fraction. For example 1.4 is a rational number because it can be expressed as 14/10. An irrational number is one which can not be expressed as a fraction. For example, \(\pi\). What do you think - can \(\sqrt{2}\) be expressed as a fraction or not?

so 1.4 is irrational @ospreytriple

Correct. Good job.
