More of an algebra question really... Anyways, you have one variable, 'x', so you need one equation in order to solve for it. Do you see any way to combine the expressions for each line into an equation that makes sense?

You know that the length of LM and MN is equal to the length of LN, which is 12x + 16. Therefore, (10x + 8) + (5x -4) =12x + 16. The goal is to isolate x in 10x +8 + 5x - 4 = 12x + 16, and then "plug in" the value of x in 12x + 16 to find the length of LN.
