chemistry help!!! I have no idea how to name this please help.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@abhisar @abb0t @vocaloid @arronq

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Is this correct? I'm trying but I'm really not sure how.

OpenStudy (rushwr):

The first thing there are no triple bonds found. Only double bond is found so alkenes are found.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay so it's an alkenes and ends in -ene ? @rushwer

OpenStudy (rushwr):

Since that is an alkene and no other groups are found start numbering from that carbon. Find the longest carbon chain.

OpenStudy (rushwr):

yep !

OpenStudy (rushwr):

u better sort the steps and write it in ur words.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay so seven carbons 1 heptene?

OpenStudy (rushwr):

yep !

OpenStudy (anonymous):

And then is it 5-ethyl

OpenStudy (abhisar):

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Now I'm confused.

OpenStudy (rushwr):

@Abhisar But we have to go for the longest carbon chain !

OpenStudy (abhisar):

Oops, I forgot that lol !

OpenStudy (anonymous):

What do I use to name the carbon branch 4-?

OpenStudy (rushwr):

So I got 4-ethyl-1-heptene

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Wait so it's 7 carbons not 6?

OpenStudy (rushwr):

yep 7 carbons.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay so is this right?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

?

OpenStudy (abhisar):

|dw:1440044064966:dw|

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Plecase Let Me know if I'm doing it right it's my last question.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@abhisar @rushwer

OpenStudy (abhisar):

yne is used for triple bond, ene for double bond.

OpenStudy (abhisar):

Ethyl is at 4th carbon not at 5th carbon.

OpenStudy (rushwr):

I would say. Identify the double bond . (identify the compound is an alkene) Number the main chain having the highest number of carbons which also contains all the double bonds. The C=C double bond should be given priority when numbering the main chain. Since the double bond acts as the main functional group in this numbering should be done in such manner where the lowest possible number is given to the C=C double bond / After numbering the main chain identify the side chain alkyl groups. I'm not sure if I missed anythn ! @Abhisar I'm baad in writting stuff step wisely. !!! just add the missing parts. :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thanks so much

OpenStudy (rushwr):

Anytym :)
