Identify the factors of x2 − 4x − 12.

OpenStudy (hayleymeyer):

well we are given \[x^2 -4x-12\] we can write -4x as -6x+2x so now we have -\[x^2 -6x +2x-12\] taking common terms out we get-\[x(x-6)+2(x-6)\]taking (x-6) common we get- \[(x-6)(x+2)\]so (x-6) and (x+2) are the 2 factors :)
