OpenStudy (anonymous):

What is the specific name for the rock formed when lava cools and hardens at the earth’s surface?

OpenStudy (happy_to_help):

Magma

OpenStudy (anonymous):

It is not magma....

OpenStudy (anonymous):

It is definately not magma, it is called that when molten rock is inside of the vulcano. Basalt and granite are the most abundant rocks formed when lava solidifies. basalt is formed in ocean vulcanos and granite is formed in surface vulcanos. So I would say granite.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

It is hard to know the exact name of the rock with this given information.

OpenStudy (ramirocruzo):

Igneous Rocks are formed on cooling of Magma

OpenStudy (jmark):

Igneous rock - the rock formed when lava or magma from volcanic vents flows, cools and hardens at the earth’s surface.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

they ask for a specific rock and ignious rock is a very big group so probably it is granite
